Struggling with a tenant?

Being a landlord can be rewarding in a number of ways, but it can also be quite challenging as well. Despite one taking all possible precautions, there will be a time when one has to deal with a problematic tenant. It just happens, and that is okay. What does the state of Missouri allow landlords to do when facing certain tenant-related struggles?

How landlords attack various tenant-related problems obviously depends on what the problems are. There are several issues landlords often find themselves having to deal with. Some of them might include:

  • Lack of payment
  • Damage to property
  • Neighbor complaints
  • Contract violations
  • Security deposit misunderstandings

While tenants are protected, and they do have certain rights, so do landlords. Landlords are prohibited from discriminating against current or potential tenants based on a variety of factors. However, they do still have the right to protect their investments when any of the above issues -- among various others -- arise. To do that, they can file civil claims against their tenants if trying to talk things out fails to resolve anything. They may also move to evict trouble tenants -- under the right circumstances.

How and when a landlord reacts when struggling with a tenant matters. Taking the wrong step at the wrong time could come back to hurt one in several ways down the road. Landlords in Missouri who are dealing with trouble tenants do not have to manage the situation alone. They can seek legal assistance in order to resolve the situation properly and in a timely manner.
